 This colorful scene was photographed at Yellowstone National Park.

 Travertine terrace near Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. Large amounts of calcium carbonate dissolved in the very hot water are deposited as the water reaches the surface and cools. This photo has received three peer recognitions from other photographers on Viewbug.com!

Birds and Tigers and Calendars

This beautiful bird, a gray-headed kingfisher, was photographed in Kenya.

Ranthambhore National Park in India is home to this handsome male Bengal tiger, photographed with a 400mm lens as he crossed an open area.

A Bakery and A Bicycle

This is perhaps my favorite photograph from a recent walking trip through rural England. 

I found this nostalgic site while wandering the streets of the village of Lacock, which dates back to the 1250s. Despite its small size (the population is about 1,250 people), Lacock is a popular tourist destination.

When I spotted this old-style bicycle parked in front of a bakery, I immediately saw symbols of a long-ago England: a single-speed bicycle with a  wicker basket on front parked in front of a bakery housed in a very old stone building.

Sponsor a Student, Change a Life

I recently signed on to sponsor the high-school education of a deserving student in Kenya who otherwise would not be able to attend high school. I have joined other like-minded people who believe in the power of education to save lives, and who are willing to commit to sponsoring a $1,500/year scholarship through the Save the Elephants scholarship program.

I am sponsoring a female student, whom I hope to meet next  year when I visit Kenya. But I want to do more. There are many students deserving of a chance at a better life. This is where you and others can help.

Just imagine the difference an education can make in the difference of a student in Kenya. Imagine the possibilities that lie ahead for these students from pastoralist communities who otherwise will spend their lives herding goats and cattle, living in huts. 

I visited a school in rural Kenya in 2014. Despite the fact the school had no electricity or running water, no computers, and no classroom supplies or equipment, the students were engaged and eager to learn. Most of them, including the little ones, walked several miles to and from school each day. They ate their lunch, brought from home, on the ground. Their classrooms had dirt floors. Yet the students wanted to learn. Now imagine what your donation can do to make a direct impact on their lives.

Using Art to Help Others

A few months ago, I set up a Web site to offer some of my best photographs for sale. My hope is to use this site to raise funds for some of my favorite non-profit organizations.

I have donated my photographic talents to animal shelters and wolf rescue organizations in

New Mexico in the past. With this new venture, 50 percent of net proceeds from the sale of my photographs will be donated to the charity of the buyer's choice, from the following list:  David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (runs a nursery for orphaned elephants in Kenya and prepares them to return to the wild); Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue; Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue; or Road Runner Food Bank of New Mexico..

I love photography. I consider myself to be better than average, but a long way from being professional. I enjoy the challenge of capturing a scene and of always trying to improve my photography skills.

Friends and acquaintances have told me for many years how much they enjoy seeing my
photographs from trips throughout the U.S. and around the world. So I have decided to make my best photographs available for sale, with 50 percent of profits being given to the non-profit organization of the purchaser's choice.
