It's early Sunday morning, and I have made a decision.
I have been seriously impacted, and not in a good way, by the chaos and anger created by the regime currently ruling America. So this morning I decided to try something different to help me deal with all the negativity and stress.
I already limit how much news I consume. I record local and national news so I can skip stories I don't want to watch, as well as the endless commercials. I shut my cell phone off around 7 p.m. so I'm not tempted to check online news. I don't use my computer after mid-afternoon. But that isn't enoush.
So I decided to do more. I have now disabled my Facebook account, at least temporarily. I also have always been an avid reader, and I have increased the amount of time I read every day. I read e-books on a variety of topics. Currently I am reading a book about a physician on a large cruise ship going around the world. It's enteraining and humorous.
I also spend a fair amount of time writing this blog, although some posts deal with the regime ruling America. I enjoy reading about dogs, too. Sometimes I read historical fiction, or biographies or historical books.
Spending time outdoors on a sunny say is important, even when the temperatures are too cold for my taste. Listening to classical music is a great way to relax. Currently a piece by Mozart is playing. Even in the depths of winter, when the world is devoid of color and new life, I often grab my camera and photograph my dogs in the yard, or try photographing the moon.
All of these tactics help, but the underlying stress is still there. And it will remain until the United States once again becomes a true democratic republic. I just hope it isn't too late to repair the damage that has been done so far. With another 3 years to go in this regime's term, I can only hope that center voices regain control of the House and Senate in this year's midterm elections.
How do you maintain your sanity in this world where the most powerful country on earth is ruled by a madman?
